Photo Gallery

Here is my gallery.  While I love to be in the studio, here are my special memories
"outside the studio" that keep me going and I hope these moments are also making wonderful memories for everyone who stopped by for an art demonstration or lecture, signed up for a workshop near or far or just showed up, just because.
By the way, this is not in any particular order.
Enjoy!

Spring 2011 Botanical Art Workshop
The Elizabethan Gardens

The third annual spring "Botanical Art Workshop" just ended where nine wonderful artists met and painted specimens from the garden.

The workshop began with an "inspirational" presentation to introduce the variety of styles, flora and techniques found in botanical painting.

Then everyone went into the garden to make their selections - many found potted specimens from the green house ranging from irises, a unique geranium, colorful hostas, ferns and the "Dream sickle" honey suckle discovered as a new species known only to be growing in The Elizabethan Gardens.

After a "botany for artists" discussion and my drawing and watercolor demonstrations, this group worked at their own pace as I visited with individualized coaching over the last three days.

This group was exceptional. Even those who had never painted a botanical, created "full" and complex drawings to work from.

This was such a memorable experience and I so enjoyed spending these last three days with everyone!
Thank you --- Judy, Paula, Joan, Margarette, Kathy, Anne, Catherine, Alice and Susan for such a wonderful time!
Happy Painting, Linda

Today I gave a visual presentation of botanical art from the earliest surviving pages to today's contemporary artists. I so enjoyed my time today and I hope each of you did too! I am an artist who loves sharing how art and nature are a team .... yesterday and today! Thank you again for a wonderful afternoon, Linda

I love this photo!  It was taken while I was at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center.  The Historic Garden Week peninsula tour was in Hampton this year (April 2011).  I and nine other artists set up our easels and painted on  "tour".  That day several ladies stopped by and asked "where do you teach".  I replied, "I don't have a home on the Peninsula as yet" and Jim stepped in and said we would love to have you here.

Do what you love (and know it may change along the way - for many reasons that may stop you in your tracks, relieve you, place you with people who help without getting in the way) ~ a journey, a life  - to make art forever!

"Botanical Discoveries" featured sixteen original works by Linda C. Miller, March-April 2009.

This is a photo from my first solo exhibition.  I finished my first botanical in December of 2007 (just left of my Ornamental Pomegranate).  In June, I met with Patrick Golden to "sign up" for a spring exhibition.  Looking back this is one of my proudest accomplishments.  I am now stepping into my fifth year of painting botanicals.  I still love every one of these works.  I just wished that I did not use Sap Green, for it was just so perky.  Since then, I have added washes of Permanent Rose over several of these works.  This is an example of following your heart and not asking for permission - as Nike has said - Just do it! with all your heart (my add to).

Here is my first painting that I donated to the Child Development Resources organization in 2008.

I took a wonderful course with Lara this past April and October. I and nine other artists enjoyed two delightful weekends of painting and divine cuisine by our hosts, Janet and Tom Call, owners of the beautiful inn.  There is something very special about Lara.  I so enjoyed being in her space.   I highly recommend taking a workshop with Lara.

2011 September Workshop
Two weeks ago, I held my seventh Botanical Watercolor Workshop at The Elizabethan Gardens in the Outer Banks.

The workshop started with an inspiration presentation and then we were off to the garden. Everyone found their treasures from their wonderful nursery or on the trail.

The subjects were so varied -- wonderful examples of the garden’s flora both cultivated and native – some were fragile, some were hairy, and one was quite ominous with prickly spikes.

I am so happy for everyone. Their drawings and paintings were exceptional whether they were beginners or advanced. Thank you -- Lorraine, Paula, Connie, Mary Ann, Pamela, Karen, Wyatt, Barbara, Eileen, Betsy, Beverly, Galina and Steve for spending two days with me and traveling to the garden.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 8, 10 AM TO NOON
“Art in the Garden” Children's Workshop at the York County Master Gardeners' Learning Garden
With the help of a local elementary art teacher and a wonderful write up by Home and Garden Daily Press writer, Kathy VanMullekom, we had twelve young artists join us for a morning of exploration as we all learned more about the garden’s native trees, shrubs and plants - step by step - each showcasing their flowers, fruits and foliage. We had had rain, so our fungi friends also made an appearance. As you can see from the photo, everyone had a great time. Again, I want to thank everyone and especially the artists and their parents and the outstanding team of Master Gardeners who helped make this all possible.
